FF Titan Spotlight: Premier League Promoted Sides

With less than a week to go to the start of Fantasy Premier League, you should already have a killer team name and have a broad idea of some general points to look out for when picking your GW1 squad. Here, we take a deeper dive into the three promoted sides of the 2018/19 Premier League and showcase a few players whom we think may make the difference.

  • Fulham FC

The Cottagers finished third in the EFL Championship last year, just 2 points off the automatic promotion spot. They have overall talent in the squad and have spent around £70m over the summer.

Top FPL pick: Aleksandar Mitrovic (FW | 6.5) – Mitrovic is our star pick from Fulham, when we take into account the affordable price he has been assigned. He played 20 times for the club last term but was instrumental in bringing them back to the Premier League via the play-off route. He will be the focal point of Fulham’s attack this season and is definitely worth a pick.

Special note: Ryan Sessegnon (MF | 6.5) is going to be many people’s favourite player from Fulham given his sensational season last year but some corners have suggested that he may be deployed at left-back or at least be given more defensive duties. We advise a wait and see strategy here – there are more worthwhile players at 6.5.

Other FPL picks: Alfie Mawson (DF | 5.0) | Jean Michael Seri (MF | 5.5)

  • Cardiff City

Cardiff surprised everyone including their own fans when they sprung into promotion last term and they have not spent big over the summer, opting for quality EFL Championship players to bolster their squad. They look set to struggle but under Neil Warnock, they are a tight unit that is going to be tough to break down.

Top FPL pick: Josh Murphy (MF | 5.0) – Murphy is highly rated by the Cardiff’s management who made him the key signing of their summer. He can operate on either wings and is an attacker listed as a midfielder. How he will cope in the Premier League is another question but he will be guaranteed a starting spot in at least the first 5-10 games.

Special note: Bobby Reid (FW | 5.5) is going to be a very cheap option to have for a third striker. He will likely to featured regularly and Cardiff will look to his pace.

Other FPL picks: David Junior Hoilett (MF | 5.5) | Sean Morrison (DF | 5.0)

  • Wolves

Wolves stormed to promoted last season, securing it by mid-April and nearly crossed the 100pt mark (99pts in the end). Backed by Chinese money and Portuguese connections, they do not look overawed in the Premier League. Over the summer they have spent shrewdly again, bringing into top quality signings at bargain prices. They are already tipped by bookmakers to settle for a mid-table finish.

Top FPL pick: Diogo Jota (MF | 6.5) – To be honest there are plenty to choose from in the Wolves squad but Jota gets our nod as the top pick because he is a striker being assigned a midfielder in FPL. He scored 17 times last term (also 6 assists) and already looks like a Premier League player. With more quality now in the side, he will look to bag more goals for Wolves this term.

Special note: Rui Pedro dos Santos Patrício (GK | 4.5) – Patricio is a world class goalkeeper with experience at the highest level, at this price he is an absolute steal. Wolves are not expected to keep the same amount of clean sheets as the sides in the top 6 but we can expect Patricio to rake up points from saves.

Other FPL picks: Rúben Diogo da Silva Neves (MF | 5.0) | Jonathan Castro Otto (DF | 4.5) | João Filipe Iria Santos Moutinho (MF | 5.5)
