Here are 5 FPL talking points ahead of Gameweek 19.
Son got a red card for violent conduct. It is extremely frustrating for Son owners as Spurs have favourable fixtures coming up, especially in the next 3 gameweeks (BHA, @NOR, @SOU). The club has appealed against the decision but it is unlikely to be overturned. In terms of replacement, Salah, Mane, Sterling and KDB are the choices in the premium price bracket while a change to Alli could be a straight forward decision. Moving down the price bracket, Grealish (NOR, @WAT, @BUR) and Zaha (WHU, @SOU, @NOR) are the options as they also have a nice run of fixtures.
Gameweek 19 sees the start of the fixtures congestions with 3 games in about a week. Rotation will happen and Rodgers has already said it is impossible for Vardy to start all the games. Liverpool has already rotated since the start of December, with none of the attacking players expected to play all 3 games. Goalkeepers, centrebacks would probably be less likely to get rotated. Using Liverpool as an example, Alisson, VVD and perhaps Gomez (if Lovren and Matip remain to be injured) could be the only ones to start all the 3 games. What is important is to make sure you have decent options on the bench. Players like Stephens and Hayden who don’t cost much are good choices to have as they can bring you the 2-3 points if your regular starters do not play.
- Everton / Arsenal
Everton and Arsenal both appointed new managers in Ancelotti and Arteta respectively. While we get excited over the players in these 2 clubs, it would be important to wait and see what kind of formation and players the new manager prefer. For instance, Ancelotti could decide Coleman is his first choice right back, hence Sidibe would not be a good choice.
Man United inconsistent season could have reached a new low with them losing at bottom club Watford. However, Pogba’s return to injury offers some hope, as he brought some urgency and creativity into Man United attack in the 26 minutes that he played. Is he ready to start against Newcastle at home? If he does, he could be a good differential at 3.5% owned.
- The most important question – Who to captain for Gameweek 19?
Vardy (home to Liverpool)
De Bruyne (away at Wolves)
Abraham (home to Southampton)
Kane, Alli (home to Brighton)
Grealish (home to Norwich)
Pukki (away at Aston Villa)
Vardy proved his form by scoring again with 3 bonus points at Man City. This gameweek, he plays Liverpool at home, who would be wary of him and are better equipped than Man City to deal with his pace. De Bruyne dropped back into central midfield against Leicester, which decrease his goal scoring threat. Wolves away is also not the easiest of fixtures. Abraham has a good fixture at home to Southampton but his form is not that good. Brighton has a terrible record away to Spurs. However, Spurs were so poor attacking wise and without the suspended Son, it is safe to say than either Kane or Alli would be a left field choice for the captaincy. Looking at the fixtures, Aston Villa vs Norwich could be the most high scoring game given the defensive weaknesses of both teams. Would anyone dare to take a gamble on Grealish or Pukki?
That’s all for now and good luck for Gameweek 19!
