Here are 5 talking points ahead of FPL Gameweek 23.
Vardy (LEI, 10.0m, TSB 50.6%)
Vardy owners have been frustrated as he missed 2 games and has only 1 goal and 2 assists in the last 6 gameweeks. But his form is actually not too bad if you exclude the 2 games he didnt play (1 goal and 2 assists in 4 gameweeks). He is perhaps a victim of his own success as he set the bar so high since the start of the season. Therefore, there is no reason to sell him as he has 4 decent games coming up (@BUR, WHU, CHE, @WOL).
Aston Villa dropped into the bottom 3 after a heavy defeat against Man City. Their form in the last 6 games has been poor as well. With Heaton and Wesley out of the season, could they be the new whipping boys in the league? We think it is too early to tell and it would be interesting to see if Reina (AST, 4.5m, TSB 0.1%) will become the starting goalkeeper following his arrival from AC Milan.
Watford is one of the form team with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss in their last 6 games. Their players are still lowly owned, with Foster (WAT, 4.9m, TSB 3.7%) their most owned player. It could be worthwhile to bring in players like Deeney (WAT, 6.2m, TSB 1.2%), Deulofeu (WAT, 6.1m, TSB 2.8%), Doucoure (WAT, 5.6m, TSB 1.5%) and Sarr (WAT, 6.2m, TSB 1.3%). But we remain cautious over getting too excited as their next 6 games is not the easiest with TOT, @AST, EVE, @BHA, @MUN, LIV.
The talk of which 3 players to get from Liverpool will not stop until after Gameweek 24. They have now kept 6 consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League, which makes a strong case for bringing in their defence. As for their attackers, Mane (LIV, 12.4m, TSB 39.9%) has 2 goals and 2 assists while Salah (LIV, 12.3m, TSB 25.5%) has 4 goals and 2 assists. There have been some calls for Firmino (LIV, 9.3m, TSB 10.0%) with 3 goals in the last 6 games. We think the Brazilian will be too big a risk, but at the same time, he could turn out to be a brilliant differential if it works out.
The most important question – Who to captain for Gameweek 23?
- Ings (SOU, 6.8m, TSB 24.9%) – Home to Wolves
- De Bruyne (MCI, 10.7m, TSB 52.5%) – Home to Palace
- Sterling (MCI, 11.8m, TSB 21.6%) – Home to Palace
- Aguero (MCI, 11.8m, TSB 13.7%) – Home to Palace
- Vardy (LEI, 10.0m, TSB 50.6%) – Away at Burnley
Looking at the fixtures, the favourite would be De Bruyne and if you have Sterling, he could be an interesting differential. Aguero owners would be very tempted after his 20 points haul but he is a rotation risk with Pep being very hard to second guess this season. Vardy should also garner some support with his away game at Burnley. And if you are looking for the in-form player, then Ings would be the choice as he has 10 goals in his last 11 games.
That’s all for now and good luck for Gameweek 23!
