Liverpool have already smashed several records at this stage of the season and things are about to get bigger. With the win over Spurs, the Reds have amassed the most number of points after 21 games in a season in the history of English football. That is 130 years of history.
Liverpool have the opportunity to break more Premier League records this season:
Record: Least number of defeats by a team in a season – 0 <Arsenal (2003/04)>
The Invincibles achieved an unbeaten season in 2004, winning 26 games and drawing 12. Liverpool remains the only unbeaten team in the current season and have 17 games more to stay unbeaten to match that of that great Arsenal team.
Record: Longest unbeaten run – 49 games <Arsenal (2014)>
Arsenal’s eventual unbeaten run stretched three different seasons. Liverpool’s current run is 38 games and need to be stay unbeaten for another 12 to break this record – until GW34 that is.
Record: Most number of PL wins in a season – 32 | Most PL points in a season – 100 <Manchester City (2017/18)>
City’s 32 wins an haul of 100pts two seasons ago was quite amazing – they had only failed to win 6 of their games in the season. Liverpool will need to win 13 more games to surpass the number of wins. At their current points rate, Liverpool is in line to amass a crazy 110pts come May.
Record: Fewest goals conceded away in a season: 9 <Chelsea (2004/05)>
Under Jose Mourinho, Chelsea conceded 9 goals away from home in 19 games. Liverpool currently have just let in 5 from 10 away games.
Record: Most home wins in a season: 18 <Chelsea (2004/05) | Man Utd (2010/11) | Man City (2011/12) and (2017/18)>
No Premier League side have gone through a season with a 100% win record at home and Liverpool can break that record. To do so, they need to win their 8 remaining home ties, with Manchester United’s visit seemingly the toughest.
Record: Biggest PL title-winning margin – 19 <Manchester City (2017/18)>
Pep’s City steamrolled everyone and won the league title by 19 points in 2017/18. They won it with 5 games to spare, the joint fastest time to seal a title. Currently, Liverpool’s lead is 14 over second-placed City and have a game in hand. If they win every game from now onwards, Liverpool would win the time on GW33, regardless of what their opponents do. Liverpool clearly have a good chance to smash this record.
