How Premier League COVID19 Suspension Affects FPL

remier League COVID19 Suspension Affects FPL

The Premier League has been suspended until 4 Apr at the earliest. The ongoing COVID-19 crisis that has rocked Europe has taken its toll on the Premier League.

We look at how this Premier League COVID19 Suspension affects FPL.

What is happening?

The Premier League is suspended until 30 Apr, at the earliest.

Why is this happening?

In short, COVID-19.

On Friday, 13 Mar, the Premier League executives met up and agreed on the suspension. The swift action came after overnight news that both Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi were tested positive for COVID-19.

This is broadly in line with the UK government reaction and advisory on the current crisis.

How will this affect my FPL team?

FPL is not suspended.

The deadlines for the following Gameweeks will remain at their scheduled times:

GW31 – Fri 20 Mar 19:00 GMT
GW32 – Sat 4 Apr 11:30 BST
GW33 – Fri 10 Apr 19:00 BST
GW34 – Sat 18 Apr 11:30 BST
GW35 – Sat 25 Apr 11:30 BST

Any activity FPL managers undertake ahead of each deadline will apply to that specific Gameweek.

Given each fixture in these Gameweeks has been postponed, all players will earn zero points.

For FPL managers who took a points hit for transfers, their Gameweek scores will reflect the points they lost.

What happens if I have activated my FPL Chip?

Wildcards or chips played in a GW where all the fixtures are postponed will not be reinstated.

Managers can cancel any Triple Captain or Bench Boost chip they have played ahead of a GW deadline. However, this does not apply to transfers they have made, or Wildcards or Free Hit chips played.

Hence you will be deemed to have utilise your Wildcard or Free Hit chip.

What will happen to these postponed games?

These fixtures are deemed to be postponed. Points scored in these fixtures will apply to the GW in which the fixtures are played and not up to GW35.

In all likelihood we will see GW39 and beyond.

What about Head-to-Head Leagues?

In Head-to-Head league matches, if neither manager made transfers incurring points deductions that Gameweek then the matches will be drawn and managers will earn one point each.

What about the FPL Cup?

If you are still in the FPL Cup (we reckon about 512 teams), you are in for a roller coaster ride.

If both managers incurred no points hits through transfers, their scores will be zero and their FPL Cup match will be decided by a virtual coin toss.
