Liverpool’s lengthy unbeaten run has been ended at Vicarage Road, as Watford thrashed the Premier League champions elect deservedly by 3-0

The loss meant that Liverpool’s run is ended at 44, 5 short of the current Premier League record held by Arsenal.

With City playing the the Carabao Cup Final in Gameweek 28, Liverpool’s current lead at the top of the Premier League table remains at 22.


 

It is definitely not all doom and gloom at this stage. Yes there is an outside chance that the current COVID-19 outbreak may impact the rest of the season but on the pitch, there are still plenty of Premier League records Liverpool can break.

Records the Reds can still Break

Most number of PL wins in a season 

  • 32 <Manchester City (2017/18)>

7 more wins from their last 10 games are needed by the Reds to better City’s record of 32 wins in the season. On paper, visits to the Eithad and Emirates are the toughest fixtures left for Liverpool. On the penultimate game week of the season, Chelsea visits Anfield as well and the Blues may well be desperate for points at that stage of the season for a top 4 finish.

Most PL points in a season

  • 100 <Manchester City (2017/18)>

Liverpool are of cos 22 points of the 100-mark. The Reds can earn a maximum of 109 points from this stage onward and are poised to finish with 107 points given their current points per game ration

Most home wins in a season:

  • 18 <Chelsea (2004/05)>
  • 18 <Man Utd (2010/11)>
  • 18 <Man City (2011/12) and (2017/18)>

No Premier League side has ever ended the season with a perfect home record and Liverpool are current 13 wins out of 13. As mentioned, Chelsea’s visit on gameweek 37 is probably the toughest tie on paper.

Biggest PL title-winning margin 

  • 19 <Manchester City (2017/18)>

Liverpool’s current lead is 22 and City have a game in hand. City play Liverpool on game week 32 in a game which may actually determine the Reds’ eventual title-winning margin

  • 21 <Liverpool (2019/20)>

This is one record which already has Liverpool’s name on it. With a win over West Ham on gameweek 27, Liverpool made this record their own, surpassing a record set by City in 2012.

Fastest to beat every single opponent

  • 31 games <Manchester City (2018/19)>

Liverpool completed the run in gameweek 24, when they beat West Ham in a rescheduled fixture. This surpassed the record set by City last season.
