FPL Promoted Teams – WBA

Under Slaven Bilic, WBA enjoyed a good season in the Championship last term. The Baggies started the season strongly and were in the top 2 from GW11 till the end of the season. Slight dips in forms in January and the last few gameweeks raised some concerns, but in truth they were comfortable in their campaign.

Top Player

Matheus Pereira (MID | 6.0) was the team’s talisman last season. His creative prowess was on show throughout the season as he chipped in 20 assists and 8 goals. He will continue to play a big part for the Baggies this coming season. The Premier League would be the highest level Pereira has played in – he was a Sporting Lisbon youth product but did not quite make it at the club and has spent the last few seasons on various loans.

FPL Differential Players

Other Players to note

Charlie Austin (FWD | 5.5) and Hal Robson-Kanu (FWD | 5.5) will be contention to start upfront. Both have Premier League experience and Austin had been prolific in the Premier League with Southampton before injuries seem to curtail his promising career.

Sami Ajayi (DEF | 5.0) is a no nonsense defender who scored 5 goals last season. His price point, however, will not be attractive for FPL managers who probably need time to assess how WBA will fare.

Sam Johnstone (GK | 4.5) is WBA’s first choice GK and look set to make his Premier League debut. From a GK perspective, Johnstone will at best be your second choice to your main GK.

New Signings

WBA have been quiet in the transfer market to date, their only piece of business to date was making Pereira’s move permanent.

Fixtures

It can be said that WBA’s start to the start would be average. In the first 5 games, they would play a group of teams who are seasoned Premier League regulars with European ambitions.

Verdict

WBA actually lost two key players – Diangana and Krovinovic, both whom have returned to their parent clubs. The team is solid and reliable but without new signings, actually look worse off than both Fulham and Leeds on paper.

Bilic has experience at this level but with his current squad, it will be an uphill challenge to survive.
