FPL Bandwagon GW01
In this brand new FF Titans special, we track all the bandwagon #FPL assets – players whom are the most transferred in after the gameweek. We assess whether you should “jump onto the bandwagon”.
This list is particularly poignant if you are thinking of using your Wildcard on GW02.
Data correct as at Wed 16 SEPT
Fernandes (MNU | MID) – TSB 21%
Currently the most transferred in player in the round. Man Utd had a <blank> for GW01 so FPL managers are getting Bruno into their teams now. The Portuguese midfielder is by far the most popular United player in FPL – the next highest TSB is Martial at ~14%.
Given the way Burno had influenced Man Utd in the second half of last season, it would be natural that he will be their main creative force against this season.
Verdict – Get, if you can afford
Man Utd have good fixtures up till GW11 (when they visit Man City). They play most of the mid-table teams from last season and are at home to both Chelsea and Arsenal. Fernandes is a good option but his inflation is a bit concerning. At 10.5, he is now in the premium category, meaning that you will likely have to choose two among Bruno / KDB / Aubameyang / Salah.
KDB (MCI | MID) – TSB 30%
Like Man Utd, Man City did not play on GW01 and FPL managers are bringing him on board. No other Man City is close to this popular – Ake is next most at TSB ~7%. It looks like it’s KDB and no one else from City for most managers.
Verdict – Get him, next GW
We concede that KDB is a must have player at some point of your season. He is the top scorer last season and is improving. Given an injury free season, he is odds on to repeat his performances last season. The question is more of when. Man City visit Wolves on GW02 – that would not be an easy game. We recommend getting him on GW03 onwards.
Willian (ARS | MID)
Willian proved two things on GW01 – 1) he is Arteta’s first choice right winger and 2) his form is as good as ever. His 3 FPL assists turned FPL managers’ heads and he is the third most transferred in player at ~280k. His price has also risen to 8.1. Many FPL managers view him favourably at this price – considering that other midfielders at this price is Ziyech (injured), Pogba, Pepe and Alli.
Verdict – Wait and see
Arsenal players West Ham on GW02 and then have two tough away games at Liverpool and Man City. If you already have Aubameyang, also picking Willian feels like an overkill and against our Corona Chip Strategy. If you don’t have any Gunner in your team then maybe it does make sense to load up Willian as a cheaper alternative to Aubameyang. The Brazilian will not score as many but will rake up assists along the way.
Bamford (LEE | FWD)
After scoring at Anfield, Bamford’s FPL profile had risen dramatically and his price has also risen. He is still behind Douglas in TSB at Leeds, but we know that Douglas is just a 4.0 burner.
Verdict – Maybe not
Two things do not sit favourably with Bamford. Firstly, Leeds have tough games after GW02, playing Sheff Utd, Man City and Wolves. Secondly, he is likely to step aside after a few games for Leeds to play their record signing, Rodrigo. Leeds is unlikely to play two forwards in their high press so we expect to Bamford to lose his starting spot soon. Rodrigo had an awful debut, giving away the losing penalty but surely Bielsa will start his club record signing, at least for a few games.
Gabriel (ARS | DEF)
With a clean sheet, a goal and 3 BP, Gabriel was only behind Salah in GW01’s scoring charts.
Verdict – Not now
Arsenal have tough games which they are not expected to keep clean sheets. He may have scored on his debut but is not likely to score more than 5-7 goals in one season so it is best to just monitor Gabriel for now. Arteta may take a few games to figure out his first choice defence and with Luiz coming back at some point, it remains unclear if Gabriel is the undisputed center-back choice for Arsenal.
