FPL GW01 Team Selection
The GW01 squad is by far the most important team you will need to pick. It will determine when you would need to use the wildcard.
- McCarthy (SOU | 4.5)
Southampton has some good games in the first 10 GWs and McCarthy make a very good GK choice if you do not want to spend too much in this department. Pope makes a very good choice as well but the blank GW01 and his price tag pushes McCarthy into my team.
- Nyland (AST | 4.0)
A 4.0 GK that is likely to get some games? Definitely in my team.
- Alexander-Arnold (LIV | 7.5)
The most expensive DEF in FPL is worth your while. Liverpool has a good run of fixtures to start the season and we reckon there is a strong possibility of 5-7 clean sheets in the first 10 games. TAA also takes free-kicks and corners for the champions. At time of writing he is the most picked FPL player at ~54%.
- Egan (SHU | 5.0)
To be fair, several Sheff Utd defenders rank equally buy my choice is Egan, the top FPL points scorer for the Baldes at 5.0 price point.
- Taylor (BUR | 4.5)
As alluded Burnley do have a blank GW01 but for a sure starter in the Burnley team, Taylor is a good choice to hold for the start of the season.
- Ayling (LEE | 4.5)
Several Leeds defenders are within FPL managers’ radar but Ayling is my pick as he is versatile, have an eye for a goal (or assist) and is very likely to start.
- Justin (LEI | 4.5)
Justin will benefit heavily from Pereira’s absence early in the season. Could turn out to be the differential pick, at least in the first part of the FPL season.
- Aubameyang (ARS | 12.0)
Aubameyang was a forward last term and this season, him being a midfielder actually makes it a more difficult choice to pick him as there are many top-class midfielder. At 12.0 he is the most expensive in the game but if he can come close to his 22-goal mark, he would be a top pick for the season. One to pick and hold for the long term.
- Salah (LIV | 12.0)
When in doubt, captain Salah. This should still hold this season, at least for the early part as Liverpool do have good fixtures. Unless the Reds suffer a tremendous drop in form, they will reach the 90-point mark in the season and with that will come many goals (and a good chunk from Salah)
- Ward-Prowse (SOU | 6.0)
The Southampton midfielder gets our nod as the Saints have a relatively good start to the season and he does take all the set-pieces for his team. He is ever present in the first XI and a recent start for England will help boost his blossoming career.
- Saint-Maximin (NEW | 5.5)
Newcastle has made very good signings over the window and there is a chance the Magpies can improve on their season, especially in the attack department. Saint-Maximin packs pace and good delivery so we expect him to have a better season than the one before. At his price point, he is a great choice.
- Reed (FUL | 4.5)
We want to reserve a midfielder slot for the lowest priced player in the position and Reed seems as good as any. He could possibly start and is a good attacking option to have as a 5th choice. Over the course of the season, he could be my permanent 5th choice.
- Vardy (LEI | 10.0)
Leicester do play City and Liverpool within the first 10 fixtures but along the way the Foxes have good home fixtures. Vardy may not reach the height of last season but he remains the only forward option for the squad which will again pivot around him.
- Werner (CHE | 9.5)
There will be risk here but the reason to pick Werner is that almost every other manager has selected him to date. Werner looks fit (during international duty) and has already joined Chelsea for a short pre-season so will look set to go straight into the starting XI.
- Mitrovic (FUL | 6.0)
At this price point you will not find a more proven striker. Period. Regardless of his team’s fixtures, he is the fulcrum and is widely tipped to score around 10-15 goals this season.
