Weirdest Transfer Announcements

With the new season finally only a few days away and the transfer activity heating up, we look at the quirky way in which some clubs announce their new signings to their fans!

Ricardo Quaresma (Vitoria de Guimaraes)

Once a highly rated winger in the mold of Ronaldo, the well traveled Quaresma recently moved back home to Portugal to join Vitoria de Guimaraes and the announcement by the club was nothing short of dramatic with Harry potter references, mustangs and even horse riding!

Another recent transfer, ex Manchester United right back made his move to Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir spotting an eye mask ala Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles style as part of his transfer announcement.

Marcel de Jong & David Edgar (Vancouver Whitecaps FC)

Back in 2016, when Pokemon was still wildly popular, MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps announced literally the “capture” of Marcel de Jong and ex-Burnley player David Edgar with a Pokemonesque video.

Arthur Melo (Barcelona)

Even the big Catalan giants can get it wrong! The Brazilian midfielder Arthur who recently left for Turin giants Juventus was introduced to the fans by a .. talking football?!?

Inler at Napoli

Back in 2011, Swiss midfielder Gokhan Inler joined Napoli and was revealed at a press conference as a masked Lion, Roar.

Oh. Inler ended his career with …. Istanbul Basaksehir

Ricardo Quaresma, Pepe and Alvaro Negredo (Besiktas)

Not sure if it’s something to do with Quaresma or with Turkish clubs (no offence Turkish fans!), this one tops the rest by a mile. This transfer announcement video made up to look like an extremely low budget movie has Quaresma convincing Pepe to “Come to Besiktas” and subsequently Pepe using the same tactic on Alvaro Negredo to follow suit.

Till today, this “Come to Besiktas” catchphrase is still used by many football fans as well as the repeated Bam! Bam! Bam! that you see in the video. Enjoy!
