West Ham FPL assets
The talk of the FPL town is around West Ham’s fixture shift. After already playing the likes of Arsenal, Wolves, Leicester, Spurs, Man City and Liverpool all within their first 8 gameweeks, it appears that the Hammers will enjoy a more favourable fixture list until the fixtures are reversed around GW19.
The Hammers have enjoyed a great start to their season despite their tough fixtures and sit around mid-table with 11 points just before the November international break – this something not expected in our pre-season preview of the team.
They have of course also turned heads with their thrashing of both Wolves and Leicester and holding Man City and Spurs to draws.
In the immediate horizon, West Ham have these fixtures to come:
We look at 3 Yes’s and 1 No if you are planning to bring in West Ham FPL assets in the coming weeks.
- GW09 @SHU – Sheff Utd are winless and struggling to create any impact to date this season
- GW11 vMNU – In other times probably a straightforward win for Man Utd but the Red Devils have struggled so far and West Ham may capitalise
- GW12 @LEE – Leeds are exciting going forward but defensive frailties are beginning to show as injuries decimate their squad
Vladimir Coufal (DEF) – Yes
Our top choice is Czech defender Coufal, who has been impressive playing every minute of every game since GW04. In the 5 games he played, he has 2 assists and 2 clean sheets, making him arguably the best defender in the game at his price point of 4.5m. His low ownership of 1.5% also make him a great differential.
Pablo Fornals (MID) – Yes
Fornals is currently West Ham’s top FPL points scorer. Listed as a midfielder, he is deployed on the left side of the front three – the playing bringing the guile and creativity to the Hammers’ attack. He has already matched his goal tally of his previously season and has 2 assists to his name. Regardless of whoever West Ham play as the front target, Fornals is capable of contributing.
Tomas Soucek (MID) – Yes
Soucek has been the mainstay of the West Ham side since joining in Jan 2020. He has the most FPL points (27) for any midfielder which is priced less than 5.0 so he makes a perfect choice as the 5th FPL midfielder you may or may not want to play. He definitely gets the minutes and is a goal threat going forward in set-pieces. He has 44 goals in 206 games in his career – a very decent record.
Lukazs Fabianski (GK) – No
The Polish GK caught the eye in GW08, earning a whopping 15 points with 1 clean sheet, a penalty save and 3 bonus points. However, we do not recommend bringing him in.
It is not often that goalkeepers earn all BPs and that usually happens when the GK makes a penalty save AND keeps a clean sheet.
Against Fulham, Fabianski was lucky as Lookman has spilled his spot kick with a panenka attempt. All in all, penalty saves are rare, Fabianski himself has made 7 penalty saves in his 14 year Premier League career.
Go for another keeper like McCarthy (SOU) saves you 0.5m. Another alternative would be Mendy (CHE), who at 5.1m has kept 3 clean sheets in the 4 games he played.
