The Premier League has confirmed DGW24 and DGW25 with the announcement of the fixture list.
DGW24 and DGW25 – What is happening?
Six teams will be involved in DGWs over the space of 2 GWs.
The midweek of these two game weeks have been reserved for the Last 16 of the Champions League / Last 32 of the Europa League, so teams not involved in those fixture have the opportunity to play some of the previously postponed games.
- Manchester City – @TOT | vEVE
- Everton – vFUL | vMCI
- Burnley – @CRY | vFUL
- Fulham – @EVE | @BUR
- Leeds – @WOL | vSOU
- Southampton – vCHE | @LEE
Why is this happening?
COVID, COVID, COVID.
The pandemic has wrecked havoc in the Premier League fixtures (among other things of course) causing postponements previously and the Premier League is now finding opportunities to slot these fixtures back whenever possible.
This mirrors the events of BGW18 and DGW19, when several games were scheduled / rescheduled.
Other games to be rescheduled?
Four matches remained to be rescheduled
- Aston Villa vs Everton
- Aston Villa v Spurs
- Fulham vs Spurs
- Man City vs Southampton
Top FPL Assets
Manchester City assets will dominate the headlines with their form. They of course have a lot of FPL assets to pick from, with Cancelo (DEF), Dias (DEF), Stones (DEF) and Gundogan (MID) all having TSB% of ~20%. Sterling (MID) is a premium choice and always a rotation risk but he will prove popular over this DGW as well.
Calvert-Lewin (FWD) and Digne (DEF) from Everton also stand out. They have that home game against a misfiring Fulham side, though their second game of the week is a tough visit to Man City.
We also expect Burnley defensive assets like Pope (GK), Tarkowski (DEF) and Mee (DEF) to draw some interest as they do have that potential to keep 2 clean sheets on GW24.
Leeds assets of Bamford (FWD), Dallas (DEF) and Raphina (MID) will be the ones to look at for GW25. We know Leeds can score and they face two teams not looking great in recent weeks.
The relatively late announcement certainly makes any comprehensive strategy difficult.
There is still time to play the wildcard on GW23 fully focusing on the 4 teams with DGWs then utilise the Bench Boost on GW24. However, with the 3-player per team cap, the maximum number of players with DGWs you can field is just 12 (including 3 from Fulham).
Perhaps a more prudent approach is a Free Hit / Wildcard on GW24, bringing a first XI of DGW players.
As for DGW25, the single additional fixture makes it less enticing to do use any of the chips. A Triple Captain on Bamford is a possibility.
