FPL GW23 Wildcard
GW23 could be an interesting juncture to utilise the FPL Wildcard. It would not ultimately be the most popular one but sometimes when you just have to do what you have to do.
The transfer window is now closed so no further players will be added to the game from this point onward.
After a busy GW22 that involved TWO Man United players grabbing 17 points AND a new lowest ever single player score record (no one to be named), I have my best Wildcard recommendation. This will look at the form of players, and ultimately help you build an ideal Wildcard squad.
(this handy can be assembled for 94.2m, freeing up cash ITB for the upcoming weeks)
FPL GW23 Wildcard – Goalkeeper
Emiliano Martinez (AVL | £5.0m)
Arguably the best GK in the land (at the moment), Martinez combines Clean Sheets with great saves to rack up the FPL points and get to the top of the GK’s table. Aston Villa don’t have the best defence but Martinez is often to the rescue.
Illan Meslier (LEE | £4.7m)
Whilst Clean Sheets have been hard to come by for Leeds, the young Meslier has racked up the points. Again, a leaky defence can be a problem, but the saves he makes are out of this world. Future France goalkeeper right here.
Defenders
James Justin (LEI | £5.0m)
The best Full Back all season. He started as that budget defender, but now he is a must have. Managed 15 points against Fulham, and is really looking like England’s best Left Back. If you don’t own him already, what have you been doing.
Joao Cancelo (MCI | £5.9m)
He will get benched every now and then, but Cancelo can play anywhere. He is starting to get the returns – whether he plays RM or RB, he looks a threat. Top FPL defender this year, and has developed massively in general under Pep.
Stuart Dallas (LEE | £4.8m)
This guy can play anywhere. He can play Full Back, Wing Back, Winger, Midfield. One of the highest ranked FPL defenders, his goalscoring potential is massive. Even when Leeds concede, he’ll grab you 5 or 6 points. He will play in midfield instead of Rodrigo and boss it.
Aaron Cresswell (WHU | £5.3m)
A West Ham in defence just can’t be shaken, and Cresswell, top of the defenders charts, has been best of the best. Aaron Cresswell dominates set pieces and helps out at the back, and when you have players like Tomas Souceck nodding in headers, it’s a no brainer.
Lucas Digne (EVE | £6.1m)
Lucas Digne has managed the most assists from Left Back in the league this season, having missed 8 games through suspension and injury. Arguably the best of the best with differential ownership, the one thing that puts you off him is Pickford.
Midfielders
Harvey Barnes (LEI | £6.9m)
In the absence of Jamie Vardy, one man stepped up, and his name is Harvey Barnes. Playing in the form of his life, expect him to feed on delicious through balls from James Maddison and stick them into the top bins.
Callum Hudson-Odoi (CHE | £5.7m)
Another player starring under Thomas Tuchel, Callum Hudson-Odoi is finally starting to realise his potential. His assist for Cesar Azpilicueta’s goal vs Burnley, whilst it was still in the shadows, was perfect. Give him time, and he will thrive.
Jack Grealish (AVL | £7.8m)
With Leno suspended for the next game, and Villa’s fixtures never bad for them, this could be where Jack Grealish shines. With the class that this player has, he should grab a couple of goals and assists He has the quality to beat any team on a given day, and this Villa side is the best they’ve ever had in the league.
Bruno Fernandes (MNU | £11.4m)
With Manchester United finally on form, Bruno Fernandes will thrive. He recorded his third 17 point haul of the season against Southampton and recorded a massive haul of, you guessed it, 17 points against Everton at Goodison Park. The stats are there and there is no denying his quality. He is key to everything United do
Jesse Lingard (WHU | £5.9m)
West Ham are on a European charge, and Ex-Red Lingard has a key part to play in it. His 15 pointer against Villa, coupled with his cheeky celebration, was in his FIRST PL game this season. Form is temporary, but class is permanent.
Forwards
Callum Wilson (NEW | £6.8m)
I admit, Newcastle are always a doubt, but if you have doubted Wilson, you haven’t understood anything this season. Callum Wilson is a man in form, and when he’s 1 on 1, he finds the back of the net. Watch his highlights against Everton if you need reassuring.
Ollie Watkins (AVL | £6.3m)
If Jack Grealish is to play well, Ollie Watkins is to score as well. He looks like a striker who wants to go to the Euros and, all things considered, he is in the form of his life. His XG is one of the best in the league.
Michael Antonio (WHU | £6.6m)
Mark my words, Antonio is getting a hat-trick soon. If you saw how he disposed of Matheus Pereira, that’s all you needed to see. This guy always finds the back of the net, and his form is incredible.
