UCL Fantasy is back! Finally, after a 67 day hiatus.
UCL Fantasy is back –> Free wildcard
Every UCL Fantasy manager gets a wildcard – you are free to make unlimited substitutions within your budget until MD deadline.
Also the player pool to pick from is essentially halved – you can you pick from 16 teams which have progressed.
MD7 – MD13
There will be changes as the tournament moves into knock-out stages.
Maximum number of players from the same club
Firstly, maximum number of players from the same club is increased gradually:
- For the round of 16, you can pick a maximum of four players from the same club in your squad.
- For the quarter-finals, you can pick a maximum of five players from the same club in your squad.
- For the semi-finals, you can pick a maximum of six players from the same club in your squad.
- For the final, you can pick a maximum of eight players from the same club in your squad.
The number of transfers in between matchdays are also increased:
|Phase||Number of free transfers|
|MD7||Before round of 16 1st leg||Unlimited|
|MD8||Before round of 16 2nd leg||3|
|MD9||Before quarter-final 1st leg||5|
|MD10||Before quarter-final 2nd leg||3|
|MD11||Before semi-final 1st leg||5|
|MD12||Before semi-final 2nd leg||3|
This is of course to help UCL Fantasy managers transfer out players who already have been eliminated the round before.
Once the knockout stage starts, you can’t carry any free transfers forward between matchdays – a change from the the Group Stages.
The Wildcard and Limitless are available for use – if you had not used them yet. A quick point on Limitless – the number of players from same club applies even on Limitless, the difference is of course that you will be able to break your budget under Limitless.
Last 16 Fixtures – Analysis
These are the Last 16 fixtures
- Barcelona v PSG
- RB Leipzig v Liverpool
- Sevilla v Dortmund
- Porto v Juventus
- Atletico Madrid v Chelsea
- Lazio v Bayern
- Atalanta v Real Madrid
- Monchengladbach v Man City
At this stage, we will not expect much one-sided affairs. Two fixtures do stand out – Bayern has pretty much been cruising since last season and Lazio, while doing OK in Serie A, just isn’t quite at the same level as the Bundesliga league leaders.
Another fixture worth a look is Monchengladbach v Man City, Man City has been in great form in the Premier League, especially in defence while Monchengladbach is 12 points off the pace domestically.
The six other fixtures looking fairly even, at least on paper.
Top UCL Fantasy Assets
Still somewhat early days but here are some early picks to keep a lookout for. Price changes do not happen as often as in the FPL so there is no need to get these players in immediately.
Coman (Bayern | MID | 8,5)
Coman is Bayern’s top scoring UCL fantasy asset with 33pts and he has only played 4 of the 6 Group Stage games. He has scored more as many in the Champions League (3) than in Bundesliga (3) but his 11 assists to date has been very impressive. Coman hardly ever gets the full 90 but is usually the first few in the starting XI.
Lewandowski (Bayern | FWD | 12.1)
Lewandowski is having quite an odd season in the Champions League. Domestically he has scored 24 goals in 18 games but has “only” returned 3 goals in 4 Champions League games. The Polish is at the peak of his prowess and cannot be ignored.
Gundogan (Man City | MID | 6.7)
The German midfielder is enjoying one of his best scoring seasons of his career, having already scored 9 goals in 23 games in all competitions for City. At his price he is an enabler in UCL Fantasy, a must have to free up cash in other departments.
Sterling (Man City | MID | 10.5)
Without de Bruyne and Aguero, Sterling is becoming an essential for anyone who wants an attacking City asset. He has already found the net 10 times in 28 games, although he is not as prolific in the Champions League so far with just 1 goal in 6 Group Stage games.
Haaland (Dortmund | FWD | 11.1)
Despite missing games with a muscle injury, Haaland is back to his best goal scoring form. He has 22 goals in 21 games to date, including 6 in the Champions League. The Norwegian is “fixture” proof and can be backed to score against any team.
Suarez (Atletico | FWD | 9.9)
At 34, Suarez is again enjoying his football and having one of his top goal scoring season of his career. Although he has yet to score in the Champions League for Atletico, he has 14 league goals in 16 appearances.
Morata (JUV | FWD | 9.0)
Ronaldo is naturally the top choice for a Juventus player but Morata has been in great form in the Champions League. He is the current joint top scorer with 6, 2 more than Ronaldo.
