FPL GW27 Picks
Most people already own three City assets and so my focus for this week will not be on them, although they are one of just two teams who double (Southampton being the other).
FPL GW27 Picks – BUY
Emiliano Martinez (£5.3m / 39.3%)
If, like me, you are late to this party then it’s time to get involved. Martinez is currently on track to become the top-scoring FPL goalkeeper of all time, beating Brad Friedel’s epic 187-pointer in the 2002/2003 season.
Aston Villa’s next four matches (WOL, new, TOT, FUL) could see more defensive points on the horizon for Martinez and, crucially, he doesn’t blank in GW29, so is a great option for those who do not have their Free Hit.
Michail Antonio (£6.5m / 11.1%)
West Ham’s fixtures (LEE, mun, ARS, wol) are a bit of a mixed bag, but we should note it they also don’t blank in GW29. Despite this, I still believe Antonio could be a great pick.
West Ham’s last two games (TOT, mci) have been against tough opposition, but Antonio has returned in each one, which shows he is a player who seems unaffected by the strength of the opposition.
His underlying stats aren’t overwhelming, but Antonio seems to be clinical where it counts.
FPL GW27 Picks – SELL
Harvey Barnes (£6.9m / 15.0%)
Leicester’s injury woes intensify with news that Harvey Barnes could be out for some time. Very unfortunate for him, and his owners, who were enjoying an excellent run of form.
“It’s not good news. He needs an operation,” said Rodgers “He’ll be out for a minimum of six weeks. Part of the bone in his knee has come off, so he’ll need it repaired.”
Alex McCarthy (£4.5m / 15.0%)
Benching a non-injured keeper speaks volumes about a manager’s intent and so, despite a double in GW27, Alex McCarthy should be on his owners’ out list.
Southampton’s recent defensive performances alone should be enough to convince managers to part ways; the fact that McCarthy may no longer be first choice only adds weight to that argument.
FPL GW27 Picks – KEEP
Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m / 59.4%)
Bruno is one player who is being transferred out at the highest rate this week and, for me, it is slightly puzzling. Yes, he has blanked in the last two games. Yes, he faces Man City in the next game. But…
In the four previous games to that he scored 45 points (11.25 points per game!) which is an insane return rate.
If, like me, you still have your wildcard and are planning to play it in GW30 then I am more understanding of a decision to get rid of Bruno but only as part of a temporary plan to avoid the tricky fixture patch (mci, WHU).
If you are not wildcarding, I would strongly suggest keeping hold of Bruno.
Ollie Watkins (£6.6m / 27.0%)
With just 11 points in his last four game weeks (2.75 points per game), I can understand Watkins’ owners’ frustration, however, I wouldn’t sell him just yet.
With good upcoming fixtures (WOL, new, TOT, FUL) and no blank in GW29, Watkins could punish those who lose patience too early.
I expect Jack Grealish will soon return from injury and his presence will boost Watkins’ prospects of goal involvement.
