FPL Team Preview Brighton
Last season was an interesting season for the Seagulls.
Under the highly rated Graham Potter, Brighton played good football, enjoyed several good results but ended the season 16th, 2 spots above the relegation zone and 2 points above Burnley.
Despite the finish, they achieved their best points tally (41); fewest goals conceded (46) and kept a record 12 clean sheets.
FPL Team Preview – Brighton
2020/21 Premier League Season
Attacking-wise, Brighton were average. They had an average xG of 39.39.
Their defence surpassed most expectations. They conceded the 7th fewest goals in the season, kept 12 clean-sheets and had an average xGA of 27.44 .
Robert Sanchez (4.5 | GK) replaced Matt Ryan after a handful of games into the season and earned 101 points in total.
He kept 10 clean-sheets with a save percentage of 70%. He is currently owned by 27.3% managers likely because of his low price and the trust of the FPL managers in Brighton’s defence.
The Spanish ended the season strongly and earned a spot in Spain’s Euro 2020 team. With Ryan gone, he is expected to start for the Seagulls.
Tariq Lamtey (4.5 | DEF) played just 11 games for Brighton last season because of injuries but did well enough to attract attention of FPL managers. He scored once and assisted 3 times playing as an attacking right wing back (xG+A/90 of 0.15).
At his price point he makes a very enticing pick but perhaps a little more time is required to assess how the youngster is coping after a season-ending injury last term
Other Players to watch for
Lewis Dunk (5.0 | DEF) was one of the key players for Brighton last season bagging 130 points last season with 5 goals. He had an average xG+A/90 of 0.11 with 0.98 Sh/90. He had a goal involvement of 14.7% and has got good fixtures to begin with. He is currently owned by 6.2% managers and can be a good differential.
Danny Welbeck (6.0 | FWD) can be one of the top differentials in the early weeks. He netted 6 and assisted 4 in his 17 appearances with a goal involvement percent of 38.2% last season which enables us to go with a cheap forward who can give high returns.
Brighton have not significantly bolstered their front ranks so it looks like either Maupay or Welbeck would be starting on GW01, if not both.
Ben White (4.5 | DEF) makes an interesting pick at this stage, also because of his probable move to Arsenal before the summer ends. If that moves do happen, White will be a very budget pick at 4.5 starting for Arsenal.
Brighton have yet to make any significant signings but have let Propper and Ryan leave.
First Five Fixtures
Of Brighton’s opening 4 games, they play Burnley, Watford and Brentford – 3 games they would think that they are favourites.
