Benfica UCL Fantasy

Benfica finished third domestically last season and navigated two rounds of qualifiers to reach the Champions League.

We speak to a fan to preview their UCL Fantasy prospects.

(the below are in his own words)

Thats a funny story. I’m Portuguese, and I grew up in a small city near Lisbon.

As a young kid, I started supporting Sporting CP, Benfica’s rivals, but my grandfather, being a die hard fan of Benfica, wouldn’t let it happen, so he managed to switch me to the other side of the fence.

He used to tell me stories of Eusébio, The Black Panther, playing in the 60’s, which got me captivated

Benfica’s chances

The last few years have been far from good, but this season the team is displaying a good and attractive football.

We also have a deep enough squad that will let us focus in the UCL games without jeopardizing the League.

Also, if there is one year to play against Barcelona, it has to be this one. With them rebuilding, most of our future in the UCL will be played in those games.

I’m not saying those will be easy games, but I think we do have a chance if we play them at our best

Much of our strategy and Fantasy points will pass through Grimaldo (DEF | 4.5) and Rafa Silva (MID | 7.0).

Those two are our main threats in terms of goal potential.

Grimaldo is kind of a steal, since he is a defender on set pieces and he also takes some of the corners.

Benfica UCL Fantasy – Top UCL Fantasy picks

I’m still waiting on Yaremchuk (FWD | 7.0), he seems to be our best forward this year, but there’s a lot of competition for that spot on our team.

Odysseas Vladchodimos (GK | 4.5) is a great pick due to his price, save points potential and maybe the odd clean sheet.

Lucas Veríssimo (DEF | 4.5), is playing really well at the moment, got his first call up to the Brazilian team and has been involved up front in some goals. He will return from suspension on MD2.

3 Portuguese Teams in UCL

It is the first time since 17/18 that we have 3 Portuguese sides in UCL.

I think all of the Big 3 clubs had tough draws, but we do have chances for one team to the knockouts.

Also, we are currently ahead of Ligue 1 in the 5th spot in the ranking, so it would be important to have good results, in order to consolidate our spot in the ranks.
